Softball Cruises to Win Over Red Devils - Messiah University Athletics (2024)

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah University softball team dominated in a 7-0 win over the Dickinson College Red Devils on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons opened the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. The Falcons then added three more runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to four. Both pitchers settled in for a couple of innings before the Falcons added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run home run from Kandice Schlabach to push the Falcons lead to 7-0. The Falcons shut down the Red Devils in the top of the seventh to close out the shutout win. Fallon Feaser threw six shutout innings for the Falcons, allowing seven hits and striking out three batters. Alexa Burger, Allie Book, and Kandice Schlabach led the Falcons with two hits each. Jaden Keister and Ali Wagner each totaled a hit and a run.

How it Happened
After Fallon Feasor worked around two hits in both the top of the first and the second, the Falcons offense looked to get on the board in the bottom of the first. Allie Book led off with a triple to center field to give the Falcons a runner on third with no outs. After a ground out to third, Elianna Litwin hit an RBI single into left center to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at two innings of play.

After the Falcons set down the Red Devils in order in the top of the third, the Falcons looked to extend their 1-0 lead in the bottom half. After a ground out, Alexa Burger hit a one out single down the left field line. Burger then stole second and Kandice Schlabach hit an RBI double to left center to push the Falcons lead to two. Jaden Keister then hit a single to left field and then advanced to second on a throw. Allie Book then hit a fielder's choice that scored Schlabach from third and after an error, Keister also scored to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead after three innings.

The Falcons in the bottom of the fifth looked to add more insurance runs to their 4-0 lead. With one out, Rebekah Wiley hit a single to right field and then Allie Book singled through the right side to put runners on first and second with one out. McKenzie Shannon then singled through the left side to load the bases for the Falcons, though Messiah could not get any runs across with a pop out to short and a ground out to first to end the bottom of the fifth.

The Falcons again looked to extend their lead in the bottom of the sixth, with a leadoff pinch-hit triple by Ali Wagner. After a ground out, Alexa Burger hit an RBI single through the left side to extend the Falcons lead to five. Kandice Schlabach then followed up the single with two-run homerun to left field to push the Falcons lead to 7-0 through six innings.

Maggie Chinnadurai finished off the top of the seventh in the circle for the Falcons to give the Falcons a 7-0 win.
