Hebrews 6:11–18 ESV - And we desire each one of… | Biblia (2024)

11And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance cof hope until the end, 12so that you may not be sluggish, but dimitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

The Certainty of God’s Promise

13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, ehe swore by himself, 14saying, f“Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15And thus Abraham,2 ghaving patiently waited, obtained the promise. 16For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes han oath is final for confirmation. 17So when God desired to show more convincingly to ithe heirs of the promise jthe unchangeable character of his purpose, khe guaranteed it with an oath, 18so that by two unchangeable things, in which lit is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope mset before us.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — The New International Version (NIV)

11We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

13When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, 14saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

16People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. 17Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

11And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. 13For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 14Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. 15And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

Hebrews 6:11–18 — New Living Translation (NLT)

11Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. 12Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

13For example, there was God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying:

14“I will certainly bless you,

and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.”

15Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

16Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. 17God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. 18So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

11And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” 15And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. 17Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — New Century Version (NCV)

11We want each of you to go on with the same hard work all your lives so you will surely get what you hope for. 12We do not want you to become lazy. Be like those who through faith and patience will receive what God has promised.

13God made a promise to Abraham. And as there is no one greater than God, he used himself when he swore to Abraham, 14saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15Abraham waited patiently for this to happen, and he received what God promised.

16People always use the name of someone greater than themselves when they swear. The oath proves that what they say is true, and this ends all arguing. 17God wanted to prove that his promise was true to those who would get what he promised. And he wanted them to understand clearly that his purposes never change, so he made an oath. 18These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. These things encourage us who came to God for safety. They give us strength to hold on to the hope we have been given.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — American Standard Version (ASV)

11And we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the fulness of hope even to the end: 12that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13For when God made promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he sware by himself, 14saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. 15And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16For men swear by the greater: and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation. 17Wherein God, being minded to show more abundantly unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath; 18that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us:

Hebrews 6:11–18 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

11But we desire earnestly that each one of you shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end; 12that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience have been inheritors of the promises. 13For God, having promised to Abraham, since he had no greater to swear by, swore by himself, 14saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee; 15and thus, having had long patience, he got the promise. 16For men indeed swear by a greater, and with them the oath is a term to all dispute, as making matters sure. 17Wherein God, willing to shew more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of his purpose, intervened by an oath, 18that by two unchangeable things, in which it was impossible that God should lie, we might have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us,

Hebrews 6:11–18 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

11We want each of you to prove that you’re working hard so that you will remain confident until the end. 12Then, instead of being lazy, you will imitate those who are receiving the promises through faith and patience.

13God made a promise to Abraham. Since he had no one greater on whom to base his oath, he based it on himself. 14He said, “I will certainly bless you and give you many descendants.” 15So Abraham received what God promised because he waited patiently for it.

16When people take oaths, they base their oaths on someone greater than themselves. Their oaths guarantee what they say and end all arguments. 17God wouldn’t change his plan. He wanted to make this perfectly clear to those who would receive his promise, so he took an oath. 18God did this so that we would be encouraged. God cannot lie when he takes an oath or makes a promise. These two things can never be changed. Those of us who have taken refuge in him hold on to the confidence we have been given.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

11Now we want each of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the final realization of your hope, 12so that you won’t become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance.

13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself:

14I will indeed bless you,

and I will greatly multiply you.

15And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise. 16For men swear by something greater than themselves, and for them a confirming oath ends every dispute. 17Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath, 18so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

11And we want each one of you to show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope to the very end, 12so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13When God made a promise to Abraham, because he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14saying, “I will surely bless you and multiply you.” 15And thus Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise. 16Human beings, of course, swear by someone greater than themselves, and an oath given as confirmation puts an end to all dispute. 17In the same way, when God desired to show even more clearly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it by an oath, 18so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God would prove false, we who have taken refuge might be strongly encouraged to seize the hope set before us.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

11And we desire each one of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the full assurance of your hope until the end, 12in order that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and patience.

13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater to swear by, he swore by himself, 14saying,

“Surely I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply you.”

15And so, by persevering, he obtained the promise. 16For people swear by what is greater than themselves, and the oath for confirmation is the end of all dispute for them. 17In the same way God, because he wanted to show even more to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of his resolve, guaranteed it with an oath, 18in order that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge may have powerful encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us,

Hebrews 6:11–18 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

11We want each of you to be faithful to the very end. We want you to be sure of what you hope for. 12We don’t want you to slow down. Instead, be like those who have faith and are patient. They will receive what God promised.

13When God made his promise to Abraham, he took an oath to keep it. But there was no one greater than himself to take an oath by. So he took his oath by making an appeal to himself.

14He said, “I will certainly bless you. I will give you many children.” 15Abraham was patient while he waited. Then he received what God promised him.

16People take oaths by someone greater than themselves. An oath makes a promise certain. It puts an end to all arguing. 17So God took an oath when he made his promise. He wanted to make it very clear that his purpose does not change. He wanted those who would receive what was promised to know that.

18God took an oath so we would have good reason not to give up. We have run away from everything else to take hold of the hope offered to us in God’s promise. So God gave his promise and his oath. Those two things can’t change. He couldn’t lie about them.

Hebrews 6:11–18 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

11And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end,

12so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,

14saying, “I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.”

15And so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.

16For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.

17In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,

18so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
